There are just so many Nintendo games out there, who has time to play them all? Apparently I do; all of them, 5 min per game. After my playing I will give each game a rating of 0 or 1. Sometimes I will have guests drop by and help.

NES AtoZ 62: G.I.Joe a Real American Hero

,

G.I.Joe A Real American Hero - 1/1

I was never big into G.I. Joe. Not the comic, or the cartoon and I haven’t even seen the movie. But I appreciate a team of military badasses with long history. The concept seems custom built for a badass run and gun game and looks like Taxan felt the same. I have never played or heard of this game as a child, but I wish I had. it plays like Contra but with a bunch of different characters. This game goes for about $25-35 on eBay, which … might be a reasonable price from a collector perspective, I am not sure. If you see it at a garage sale, get it!

NES AtoZ 61: Fun House

,

Fun House - 1/1

Apparently this game is based on a late-eighties gameshow of the same name. Because of that, I am assuming more gameplay modes exist in this game beyond the top-down perspective objective gathering mode. Even though the controls were slightly annoying to get used to, once I got the hang of it, this game mode felt totally acceptable. If at least 3 other modes exist with similar enjoyment factor I think this is a pretty killer game!

NES AtoZ 60: Friday the 13th

,

Friday the 13th - 0/1

LJN games get a bad rap, and this is one of them. But is it really that terrible? I will go out on a limb and say not really. The game controls fine, the graphics are fine. The problem is I didn’t find it very fun. To be fair, I have seen people play this online and the game actually has some depth, and the climactic confrontations with Jason are pretty awesome. Problem is, who is going to invest that much time into a game that doesn’t grab you right away in todays world? I have to give it a 0.

NES AtoZ 59: Freedom Force

,

Freedom Force - 1/1

Freedom Force is the first light gun game I have reviews since the wonderful developers over at OpenEmu got mouse support in here. The gameplay is pretty typical, you shoot bad guys that pop up in windows and doors. But you must try not to shoot the hostages. Even though it couldn’t be more simple, I still had a good time.

NES AtoZ 58: Frankenstein

,

Frankenstein - 1/1

I was pleasantly surprised by Frankenstein. The biggest stand out are the controls. It’s very responsive and crisp, reminds me of Ninja Giaden. I don’t really remember the story, but it looks like you are NOT the monster but just a man, and you are trying to stop the monster. Killing enemies rewards you with better weapons and life pickups which actually makes killing enemies a pleasure. From the short time I played it I saw a nice variety of enemies and all of them look a little strategy to defeat. Excellent game.

NES AtoZ 57: Formula One Built to Win

,

Formula One Built to Win - 1/1

I usually don’t dig realistic racing games much, but this one felt pretty great. It actually controlled well and I am a sucker for building up my car. I found out later that every city in the race is actually based on a real location of the formula one race, which is neat.

NES AtoZ 56: Flying Warriors

,

Flying Warriors - 1/1

I felt the familiarity to Flying Dragon right away. I found out later that it is a sequel to that game! Cool. The game is a side-scrolling platformer that features multiple play styles. Like in the previous game you have these one-on-one duels which involve you pressing buttons at careful times. Sort of like an early version of a quicktime event. The graphics are nice with large colorful sprites and the animation is smooth. Easy 1/1 here.

NES AtoZ 55: Flying Dragon the Secret Scroll

,

Flying Dragon the Secret Scroll - 1/1

My first experience with this game was watching Chief Arino play it, and it looked pretty sweet. I actually tried it out for a couple of hours after watching that GCCX episode and it was as fun as I expected. I think I got to level 3 before throwing in the towel. It’s a shame we didn’t beat level one in our first sitting, in between levels you fight in a martial arts tournaments and it’s pretty innovative.

NES AtoZ 54: The Flintstones Secret at Dinosaur Peak

,

The Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak - 1/1

Few people have played this game outside of the emulation world. It has always been very rare, as it allegedly only available as a rental from Blockbuster (not sure who thought that was a better idea than just releasing it). Now it fetches prices as high as $1000 on the after market.

The game itself? Pretty great! Once we figured out that you can toggle between Fred and Barney an entire world opened up. The game plays a bit like the Lost Vikings if you have ever played that. both Fred and Barney have unique abilities you must use to complete the levels, I am assuming later in the game multiple paths might be available adding some replay value.

NES AtoZ 53: Flight of the Intruder

,

Flight of the Intruder - 0/1

Another garbage flight simulator… The world really wasn’t ready for these in the 8-bit era. I found the game incredibly dull, but maybe a die hard air combat fan might … still find it incredibly dull.
